My Address and Yes.Hi Sophia and Julio -
I called and left a message for Julio last night, then talked to him today. He said that the two of you are forming a group with two more people. I'm hoping that we can get the team back together (including me). I couldn't make it to the last class, because of the Jewish Holiday.
I did get a note back from Kamran and he is willing to be our "client". (See below) I'll volunteer to be the client contact, unless someone else wants to.
Julio said that our professor wanted a hard copy of our final deliverable. I will bring a hard copy to the Thurs. Class. I can send out the final copy of our project by email later today.
If the two new team members are ready to go - I can send them a copy of the final project from last term. Julio said that you had their email addresses, Sophia. Can you send those along to me?
I don't know about you to, but I feel that Spring Break was too short.
Take care,
Adam

5:15 Meeting Today (4/22) at Danny's OfficeI didn't hear back from Dannny, but since 5:15pm is within his regular office hours (4-5:30), I'll say we're OK. I will send him an e-mail to confirm, but lets plan to meet at his office at 5:15. His office is CST641. His tel. # is 312- 362-6103 in case he needs to let us into the area for offices on the 6th floor.
Thanks,
Adam
P.S. I could not get the Project 98 document into the "Electronic Doc" format that Sophia suggested. I don't think I have those capabilities. Below is the document, though. I will bring a hard copy to the meeting and class for everyone.

A few issuesHello from the Northeast side of the Loop:
A few issues that I wanted to discuss:
1. Our 4/22 meeting with Danny was attended by Juan and Adam.
Danny said that our project plan looks good, but suggested that we add more detail for each line listed in our MS. Project 98 Gantt Chart. This way we can break down the time ( 3-4 weeks) better and show ‘milemarkers’ as we move along with the project. With this in mind, I want to suggest that each of us look at the attached file and expand on our part of the project.
For example, I have end-user help design and end-user help coding. I would add the detailed tasks for each of these areas that I need to complete. I would also add dates along the way that I would have deliverables for someone in the group to look at.
The other issue that Danny brought up was in regards to our discussion about allowing team members to learn about the whole project or at least other parts of the project that they are not directly responsible for.
He suggested that we make a new column in our project plan. This would be for the critic of each task. The critic is the person that needs to understand what the person responsible for the task is doing. The person responsible explains their task to the critic and the critic gives their input ( hence, the name critic). Let me know what each of you think about this idea. I guess we could pick and choose which tasks would have a critic for.
2. As you can see in the attached project plan, we do have a meeting scheduled at 5:15 on the 8th floor of the DePaul Center. Can we meet outside of our classroom, in the open area with seating? Let me know.
3. Julio – I looked at the E.R. Diagram from deliverable C & D from last term. It looks like we didn’t do that great of a job normalizing the data.
Here is my suggestion for our entities:
Request Employee Priority Application
Request ID (PK) Employee ID(PK) Priority ID (PK) Application ID (PK)
Requester Emp ID(FK) Employee Name Priority Desc. Application Desc.
Assigned To Emp ID(FK) Employee Title Priority Resp. Time
Assigned By Emp ID(FK) Employee Position
Priority ID(FK)
Application ID(FK)
If any of you have suggestions regarding this look for the entities, let me know.
Thanks,
Adam

RE: ER diagram and Database schema
Ok, here is where I am at.
I took the database file home and got a chance to work on it yesterday.
I build the two forms that we had agreed on, but then I lost the file(s) all
together.
I assumed that it might be a virus that my computer might be carrying - I
then started up Norton Anti Virus and no Viruses were detected.
This morning, I decided to try and open the database directly from Julio's
e-mail.
Well, it turns out that my PC won't open the file because it has detected
some form of a virus.
I wanted to ask you guys whether you had the same problems opening the file
or not.
On another note,
Some thoughts on the interface forms....
After having worked on it yesterday, there were some things that I thought
needed to be considered.....
1. Since the form for the request is going to generate an automatic
Request ID when the form is loaded....this form can be used later for other
purposes.
2. A second form must be produced to do a search by the same "Request
ID".....and therefore it cannot be the same form.
3. I also think that for each process and the form used in that stage, we
need to really re-evaluate what fields are really necessary....because it
seems kind of redundant to see the same form...
4. I think that we can design a better prototype if we can all get
together again and discuss these issues with a little more effort.
5. I know that at this time we are not going to have any forms to
present to Dr. Middleman, but I think we should approach him with these
issues with him.
Maybe after we discuss these things with him, I will get a better
sense of what is best to do. I can then make an appointment myself to meet
with him alone or in group which ever you guys feels more comfortable with,
and then take it from there.
Let me know what you think...

some Ideas
I was thinking a little bit after class yesterday.
Here are some ideas on Print Jobs...Tasks...for the system..
Think about them and be ready to discuss them at tomorrows meeting..
1. Report/Statement that is e-mailed to the client.
2. The lead technician will probably want to get a daily report on
tasks that are still Open
* Report based on days open.
* Report based on unresolved cases
* Report on who are the technicians doing the work, maybe some do more
than other. Or just simply to keep track of a technicians progress.
* Report on the type of system/computer that tends to break down more
frequently.
* Report (maybe) clients who tend to call for every little problem.
(sorry- Email)
* Report on the time that lapses from the time the e-mail comes in to
the time it gets resolved.---along with the particular system associated
with it.
Well that is it for now.
See you guys tomorrow.

Ok..guys..here is the general idea of how the forms will look.
There are three forms currently...
Request is the Initial one..
Then the Assign/priority form will be the form used to prioritize, assign,
and close the job.
The third form will be to look up technician info...
Now the idea for the second and third process will be that both the Tech
lead and the Technician will be using the same form but with different
privileges.
Thanks,
Juan..

Julio,
Do you have access97? if so, it's possible to create multiple prim keys in
one table:
1) Delete relationship between REQUEST.request_id and
ASSIGNED_REQUEST.request_id
2) Go to table design
a) select ASSIGNED_REQUEST table
b.) select rows request_id and employee_id
c.) select primary key
d.) change request ID to "Long Integer" (same as
REQUEST.request_ID)
3) Go to relationships and re-add relationship REQUEST.request_id
and ASSIGNED_REQUEST.request_id.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

My apologies. I realized late last night that I double booked tomorrow
morning. I already have a meeting scheduled from 9:30 to Noon off campus
tomorrow. Might it be possible for me to meet with your team early
afternoon? 12:30 would be perfect for me. I can handle noon through 4:00
any time within. I will be working in my office tomorrow afternoon.
Starbucks meeting place works for me.
Again, sorry for complicating your schedules.

meeting w/ Danny:
Hi All,
I met Danny on sat at 1.30pm and show him the DFD and structured chart that
I and Adam had done .....he said the same thing, Adam that since in our
project processes are not dependent on each other we dont need a structured
chart and state diagram what we need is the CRUD matrix which we already
have made....but I talk to Sophia and she thinks otherwise so we have to
decide among overselves that we want to put it in our not Danny said that if
it is not meaningful to the project then dont put it in.
About DFD he said that we need to have a level 2 for that. he said that we
should show maintain process maintain employee, maintain priority and
maintain department as something like a single process on level 1 of DFD and
then break it up inthe level2 for details...I think he dont like the idea of
having 3 pages for level1 of DFD he wants o have level one of DFD on 1 page
so according to him this will give us some space to put everything on one
page...
he also wants to create a level 2 for generate report process particularly
when in technical lead we are submitting 2 reports.
he sais thah he is ok with our ERD but I am not sure which one he was
talking about as we have not show him the latest one ...
I asked him about a meeting appointment after class on thursday so that we
can show him the deliverable B before submission and wants us to make an
appointment thru email...I think we should do that fast before anyone else
pick up the slot....
My understanding is that deliverable B is worth 19 points and we will be
graded on the basis of deliverable B for that 19 points not on the part of
the deliverable B that we will submit with final version so we should take
especial care for the mistakes and dont postpone it for until for the final
submission of the report as deliverable C
I have updated the web site I put some bright orange color in the back
ground let me know about your opinions on that and also what else u want to
put on the web site.
I talked to him about the report part which is due for me he said that he is
only interested in the text format and does not require codes and interface
for the report generations...but I will reconfirm with him again .....
let me know what u guys think about structured chart
rest of the things look fine.

Wrapping up Deliverable B.
Julio, Zeeshan and I met on Sat. Morning. I didn't see the note from
Danny, so I waited from 9:05 am until Julio and Zeeshan came to
Starbucks. We did get some work done and I think we are pretty close to
finishing Deliverable B, so let's just see if we can complete things by
e-mail during the beginning of the week.
Please look at the list below. The three of us looked over the
Deliverable B requirements and decided that this is what we need to turn
in. Juan and Sophia - Please let us know if this looks fine with you.
Deliverable B
Part 1 - Data Structures
1.1 ERD
(Resource: Julio - Done)
1.2 database tables
(Resource: Julio - Done)
1.3 data dictionary
(Resource: Julio - To be done this week)
( identified and typed - taken from access)
Part 2 - System Internals
2.1 Data Flow Diagram
(Resource: Sophia - Done)
2.2 Structure Charts (optional)
(Resource: Zeeshan - Started by Zeeshan and Adam, to be completed if
Danny says we need it)
Zeeshan and I worked through a structure chart for our project. It
seemed to be of little benefit because our project is very event
driven.
Zeeshan was going to try to see Danny on Sat. at 12:30pm and ask him if
he thought we needed to include this. Zeeshan- Did you get to meet
Danny and what did he say?
2.3 Flow Charts
(Not Needed)
Because this project is more event-driven, we decided on Sat. AM that
they were not needed and not appropriate. Juan and Sophia - Let me know
if you disagree.
2.4 State Diagram
( Resource: To be determined)
This seems to be an appropriate exercise and something to include in the
deliverable. I saw the description of it on p. 497 in the text. I know
we talked about this last Sat., I think we should try to complete this
to put in Deliverable B. Does anyone want to volunteer to give this a
try? Sophia, can you give someone some direction on how to do this? Or
should we just leave it out? ( I will do this if noone else wants to.)
2.5 CRUD Matrix
( Resource: Adam - To be done this week)
I put the CRUD Matrix that we completed (Last Sat.) into an Excel
Spreadsheet. It is attached below. I have to make it look better - I
will work on that before Thurs.
Part 3 - User Interface Screens
(Resource: Juan - To be done this week)
We looked at Juan's interface screens - they look good. The only
problem is that we changed the ERD and tables, so they now need to be
revised. We need to include the attributes from the latest version of
the ERD. This includes items from the "Assigned_Request" Entity and the
renamed "Process" Entity that we discussed last Saturday.
In general, it would be nice if we could hand Deliverable B to Danny on
Thursday Night. Do you all think that we could get it done by then? We
thought that it is possible when we talked on Sat. AM. But Maybe it
would be better to look at everything on Thurs. Night and make sure that
all models balance with eachother ( This was in BOLD in the deliverable
requirements).
We also discussed on Sat AM: That we could put the whole Deliverable B
on our Web site ( www.campus.fortunecity.com/bethel/464), then send
Danny an e-mail with a link to it.
I have not checked my email at work since Friday at 5:00pm. I have been
told that our outside email takes a while to get through our Arthur
Andersen Firewall. This is probably why I didn't get Danny's email.
If you sent me email over the weekend, I probably didn't see it yet, so
take that into account when reading this.
Take care,
Adam

I think we should submit the Deliverable B as a final document as he is

will submit him now and not on the portion of the deliverable B taht we will
submit with the final deliverable C ....so we should pay especial attention

we need is only a curd matrix....we can also reconfirm taht with him through

This note is mostly for Sophia - We talked meeting at 9:00 am on Sat - to
talk
about the project before we meet with Danny at 9:30. Danny said in class
that a
9:30 meeting was OK. He just wanted a confirmation by E-mail.
Is meeting at 9:00am OK with all of you? Also at Starbucks
Thanks,

Subject: meeting w/ Danny:
Hi All,
I met Danny on sat at 1.30pm and show him the DFD and structured chart that
I and Adam had done .....he said the same thing, Adam that since in our
project processes are not dependent on each other we dont need a structured
chart and state diagram what we need is the CRUD matrix which we already
have made....but I talk to Sophia and she thinks otherwise so we have to
decide among overselves that we want to put it in our not Danny said that
if
it is not meaningful to the project then dont put it in.
About DFD he said that we need to have a level 2 for that. he said that we
should show maintain process maintain employee, maintain priority and
maintain department as something like a single process on level 1 of DFD
and
then break it up inthe level2 for details...I think he dont like the idea
of
having 3 pages for level1 of DFD he wants o have level one of DFD on 1 page
so according to him this will give us some space to put everything on one
page...
he also wants to create a level 2 for generate report process particularly
when in technical lead we are submitting 2 reports.
he sais thah he is ok with our ERD but I am not sure which one he was
talking about as we have not show him the latest one ...
I talked to him about the report part which is due for me he said that he
is
only interested in the text format and does not require codes and interface
for the report generations...but I will reconfirm with him again .....
let me know what u guys think about structured chart
rest of the things look fine.
Zeeshan

Crud Matrix, Meeting Tonight. Here's the CRUD Matrix: I just sent Danny a note asking about meeting him after class. I'm sorry I didn't send it sooner. Work has been nutty this week.
Based on the notes that have gone back and forth, it looks like we have everything that we need for deliverable B. Maybe there are a few things to discuss still. ( Juan's point about moving the attributes)
Does anyone know of anything that we are missing? If so, let's talk about it in class.
I will print out each piece of deliverable B and we can look at them all together in class. We can make sure that they "all balance with eachother."
When should we plan to meet this weekend? Sat? Let's talk about it in class.
Thanks,
Adam

This is the final version of our Deliverable B that we sent to Danny.
Zeeshan and I worked on getting this document out the door this
afternoon and evening. The problem was that we were having trouble
getting the revised Level 1 Data Flow Diagram done and into the Word
document. Therefore, I sent one version to Danny at 11:59pm and this
version at about 12:25 am. As you can see I asked him to take this
version. It has a cleaner Level 1 DFD.
I will send the 11:59 version so you can all see that as well.
I'm glad we have this deliverable "off our plate." It is definitely
"Crunch Time" to get this done by the end of the term. I'm going to
start doing the "end-user help" on the most current database ( from
Julio, 5/22 1:12pm email). We need to be working on only one version,
so I think we need to schedule days that we are working on the .mdb
file.
Thanks,
Adam

We were having trouble getting our revised Data Flow Diagram - Level 1
into our document. If possible, please accept this version of our
Deliverable B instead of the one sent at 11:59 ( about 25 min. ago).
The difference is in the data flow diagram for Level 1.

Preparing our 20 Min Presentation: Everyone ( We're 4th in line on 6/10)
We talked about meeting on Sat. 6/5, to prepare for the presentation and wrap up the prototype. Is this fine for everyone?
I will assume that everyone will be studying for the Exam ( Including me) until 6/3, so we will not think too much about the project. If you do make changes to this database, please send a copy to everyone, so we have a current version we can all work off of.
See the attachment of the database below.
Have a good Holiday Weekend ( STUDYING!! %#$&%!!)

Our Notes and Deliv. B. Grade from Danny.
Here is the email I received from Danny. I guess that we will have to
talk about this on our 6/5 meeting. Probably not before (at least in
person).
I will send him a note asking if he would like to see a revised DFD in
the presentation ( although he said that he wasn't looking for that ).
Also if we will be get points taken off if we change the CRUD Matrix and
Input screens.
I hope you holiday weekend was good.
Take care,
Adam

From: Daniel Mittleman <[email protected]>
I spent some time yesterday with your project and then went back to it
today to make sure each project had two passes of review.
While it is clear you have put considerable effort into the project and
the
project is coming along well all in all, there are several technical
errors
you should note:
1. Your context DFD is illegal. You can't have flows from external
entity
to external entity. If the flows don't go through your system, they
aren't
part of your system. This error carries over to level 1. My hunch, but
I
am not sure, is that this problem stems from the fact that you have
defined
the technical lead as being outside the system when actually he is
inside
the system.
2. Your level 2 DFD for Process 4 is not balanced to level 1. In level
one
you show a flow in from the technical lead, but you don't show it in
level
2. Again, the problem may stem from how your view the technical leads
position outside the system.
3. Similar problems with Process 6 as you don't show the technical lead
entity again. Also I note that both level 2 DFDs are incorrectly
structured almost as trees from the level 1. They don't depict flows,
if
any exist, among the sub-processes. And they do incorrectly depict
flows
that cross from level 2 to level 1.
Did your other level one processes not decompose?
Other than these comments the DFDs look good. The ERD is fine.
4. First thing I notice about the first screen shown is that while it
has
lots of wasted gray space, the form is larger than the screen requiring
use
of a scrollbar. Isn't it possible to eliminate some gray and fit all
the
data on one screen? Otherwise, the screens do look good.
5. On your CRUD analysis, you don't allow for the ability to delete a
request or an assignment. Is this what your business policy is? I note
that you do allow for deleting an employee. What happens if you assign
a
request to an employee who later gets deleted? You don't have a process
that can either update or delete the assignment so the assignment stays
with the deleted employee forever?
Your grade on deliverable B is B. I hope this isn't too disheartening
for
you. This is less than 20% of your course grade, but as much as I like
aspect of the project I can't see giving it a higher grade with
technical
mistakes in it.
I am looking forward to seeing your presentation.

Questions about Project - Support P1 Deliv. B and Deliv. C
Thank you for giving us feedback on our project.
I have questions about the items that you mentioned that were lacking in
our Deliverable B. Are we allowed to modify these for our Deliverable
C? The three issues are as follows:
1. Our DFDs need need more work.
2. Our screens could use design improvements.
3. Our CRUD Matrix conflicts with itself.
If our presentation does not include a DFD or CRUD Matrix (because we
are appealing to upper-management in our presention), is there any way
to include revisions of these in Deliverable C and get graded on it or
is this just 'water under the bridge' for us?
If we revised our screens, would we get points taken off of Deliverable
C because we changed the design after our Deliverable B (May 23) 'Design
Freeze'?
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Adam

You definitely should fix screens. I won't take off for improvements
between B and C.
You may revise the other deliverables, however expect that your final grade
on Deliverable B will be an amalgam of what you already turned in plus what
you modify it to be.

Okay guys, this is good.
the system is done.
The login IDs are: "Tech" and "TechLead"
Tech only has access to "status" and "Description" fieds.
ThechLead has access to everything that he needs to manipulate.
there is also a visitors pass.
If you leave the "login" empty...you then are then entering as a "visitor"
As a visitor you only have access to view the main form.
Test it out.

IT'S TIME TO WRAP THIS THING UP.I'm sorry I've been out of touch since Sunday. I had a project for work that I had to get done by Tuesday. Ahh, the thrill of DePaul and work! I am getting ready for the presentation tomorrow. The databases look good. I am going to work on integrating Zeeshan's version from Sat 6/6 and Juan's version from Sun. 6/7. Do we need to meet today? Maybe we can just work over the phone? I think I can figure out how to link the reports with the rest of the database. I can probably do this on my own, but tell me if either of you want to meet after about 4:45 pm today.
Zeeshan - I will send you the items for the Repository. I am planning on getting those to you by 12:30 today.
We are almost there! I cannot believe it!
Do we have a dress code? I think Business Casual - It's way too hot to wear a suit.
